A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akeem Agbaje, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his handling of security in Oyo State.
Agbaje gave the commendation while
speaking to journalists in Ibadan on Monday, May 5.
In his words: “Let me commend him (Makinde) on the issue of security. As far as I’m concerned, he is doing very well in that area. Apart from normal localized crimes, we’ve had no major issues.
Agbaje, a two-term governorship aspirant and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, however issued a strong warning to his party against the imposition of a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that party unity must not be compromised.
Agbaje cautioned that repeating the mistakes of the 2023 elections, when the APC lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), could once again cost the party its chances of reclaiming power.
In his words: “A united APC will resist the imposition of a governorship candidate on the party in this state.
“He disclosed that a particular aspirant had been parading the state, claiming to have secured endorsement from the party’s national leadership, a move Agbaje described as “dangerous” for the party’s cohesion.
Though he did not name the individual, Agbaje emphasized that such behaviour undermines the democratic process. “Do what others are doing. Don’t wait to be imposed or buy the ticket. We are making that case at the national level,” he said.

He expressed concern that the said aspirant has little connection with the grassroots and warned that pursuing such an imposition would be a strategic blunder for the APC.
“My philosophy is that the party is supreme, and we must work together for its success but history has taught us that the party must also do the needful by selecting a candidate who enjoys broad community support,” Agbaje said.
Agbaje urged the APC to unite and act wisely in preparation for 2027, asserting that the people of Oyo are ready for change if only the party can get its act together.
