The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has reaffirmed its leadership structure with the re-election of Alhaji Dayo Ogungbenro as State Chairman for a second term.
This was as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, charged the newly elected executives to deliver victory for the party across all levels in the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held on Monday, September 29, at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, drew delegates and members from all 33 local government areas of the state in a show of unity and strength.
At the end of the electoral exercise, Chairman of the PDP Congress Electoral Panel Committee, Senator Austin Akobundu, announced Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro as reelected PDP State Chairman, with Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke and Joel Oyelami emerging as Deputy Chairman and State Secretary respectively.
Mrs. Toyin Olawumi was elected as the Women Leader, while Kazeem Bello emerged as the Youth Leader.
Other state executive council members who had earlier served for four years were also returned unopposed for another term in line with the provisions of the party Constitution.
Governor Makinde, who led other top party stakeholders including national officers of the PDP to the congress, described Ogungbenro’s re-election as a reward for his proven leadership and ability to foster unity within the party.
He assured that under his watch, the PDP in Oyo will continue to consolidate its dominance and prepare vigorously for future elections.
In his address, the governor charged the new state executive to see their mandate as a call to service ahead of 2027. “Congratulations to you all. Your responsibility is beyond today. Your mandate is very clear: deliver PDP from the Presidency to the councillorship position in the 2027 general elections,” Makinde declared.
Accepting his mandate, Ogungbenro expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde, party elders, and members for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised to build on the achievements of his first term, strengthen inclusivity, and ensure that Oyo PDP remains a rallying point in the southwest.
Other leaders including chairman of Oyo state PDP Congress Electoral Panel, Senator Austin Akobundu, who spoke at the event, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise and praised the Oyo chapter as an example of stability within in the geopolitical zone.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Oyo Deputy Governor Barrister Adebayo Lawal, former Jigawa Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, present and past members of the national Assembly on the platform of the party.
The atmosphere at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex was electrifying, as party supporters celebrated Ogungbenro’s victory with songs, chants, and banners reflecting the themes of unity, continuity, and readiness for 2027.
