…As Party Reserves 35 Percent Nomination for all elective offices for women
A former member of the House of Representatives from Oyo state, Hon. Dada Awoleye, has been appointed to a key national assignment by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as part of preparations for the party’s North Central Zonal Congress.
In an official letter signed by the PDP’s National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, dated Monday, May 19, 2025, Awoleye was nominated to serve as a member of the Electoral Committee tasked with conducting the North Central Zonal Congress scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Hon. Awoleye, a former member of Oyo state House of Assembly and two termed member of the federal House of Representatives is currently the Chairman, Oyo state Primary Healthcare Board.
Recall that as part of strategic efforts aimed at repositioning the party, the PDP appointed Awoleye as the Caretaker Chairman of Ogun State chapter of the party in 2024.
His efforts alongside other members of the caretaker committee birthed the substantive state executive Council of PDP in Ogun state having successfully conducted Congress from ward to state level.
The congress, which is to be held at the Langfield Resort and Event Centre, Little Rayfield, Jos South, Plateau State, is aimed at electing new Zonal Executive Officers and National Ex-Officio members for the North Central Zone of the party.
The seven-member committee will be chaired by Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and includes prominent figures such as Mrs. Laurentia Mallam, Hon. Aliyu Bobo, Barr. Ms. Nheoma Ndu, Chief Anene Azuibuike, with Barr. Mark Jacob serving as Secretary.
According to the directive, the committee is expected to strictly adhere to the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), the Guidelines for the Conduct of Congresses, and the Electoral Act, 2022.
Special emphasis was placed on compliance with Chapter 1, Section 6(7) of the PDP Constitution, which mandates that no less than 35% of nominations for party offices be reserved for women.
Hon. Awoleye’s appointment is seen as a testament to his experience, integrity, and continued relevance within the PDP.
Party insiders say his inclusion reflects the leadership’s confidence in his ability to ensure a transparent and credible congress process.
The party expressed confidence that the Electoral Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Turaki, will conduct a successful and inclusive congress in line with democratic ideals.
