The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as an unprovoked verbal assault by Bolaji Abdullahi, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), during a recent television appearance.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party accused Abdullahi, who it described as a “chief image maker and defender of the failed All Progressives Congress (APC)”, of using the ADC platform to launch unwarranted attacks on the PDP instead of addressing pressing national issues.
“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to an unprovoked public verbal assault on national television by Bolaji Abdullahi.
“It is rather unfortunate that the APC-indoctrinated Abdullahi is apparently unhappy that the PDP is gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement read in part.
The PDP insisted it would not be drawn into confrontations with the ADC or any other opposition party, noting that its primary focus remains challenging the APC and mobilizing Nigerians for a credible alternative in 2027.
“As the leading opposition party, commanding the respect, loyalty, and solidarity of the overwhelming majority of Nigerians, the PDP will not descend to join issues with the ADC,” the party stated.
Reaffirming its strength despite recent defections, the PDP said it continues to enjoy massive grassroots support and remains the only party with the political structure and national reach to defeat the APC.
“Despite defections, Nigerians, who are the real organic strength of the PDP, are still standing shoulder to shoulder with our party.
“We have the base, the spread, and the muscle to unseat the APC,” the statement emphasized.
The PDP also declared that it has a pool of qualified presidential hopefuls capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election.
While reaffirming its openness to alliances with like-minded Nigerians and groups, the party noted it is focused on strengthening internal cohesion following the success of its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The statement also announced preparations for the party’s upcoming National Convention, scheduled to hold from November 15 to 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“We will not allow ourselves to be distracted by baseless attacks from known agents of the APC. Our focus remains on rescuing Nigeria from the misrule of the APC,” the statement concluded.
