Residents of Akobo, Ojurin, and Olorunda Abaa in Ibadan have hailed Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, as “Mr Talk and Do,” following the commissioning of the newly-dualised 5.9km Akobo–Ojurin–Olorunda Abaa–Eniosa Junction road.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the premises of Nathaniel Idowu Comprehensive High School, Olorunda Abaa, was attended by top government functionaries, traditional rulers, and political stakeholders.
Governor Makinde, represented by his deputy, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, described the road as a strategic link designed to connect rural communities, ease transportation, and boost trade and quality of life in Lagelu Local Government and beyond.
Makinde noted that the dualisation of the road, complete with solar-powered streetlights, drainage systems, and adjoining access roads is part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive development under the Omituntun 2.0 agenda.
He emphasized that the road is a fulfillment of his 2023 campaign promise and praised the Lagelu Local Government under Hon. Kamorudeen Mudashiru for executing the project.
“This landmark project stands as yet another testament to visionary governance. What was once a symbol of neglect has now become a lifeline for our people,” the governor said.
He announced that the road has been named after Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu in recognition of his contributions to the state’s development.
Governor Makinde highlighted similar infrastructure achievements across the state, including 76.7km Ogbomoso–Fapote–Iseyin Road, 34.85km Oyo–Iseyin Road, 12.5km Challenge–Odo Ona–Elewe–Apata dual carriageway, Moniya–Iseyin Road (completed in his first term), Airport–Ajia–New Ife Expressway with a spur to Amuloko, and Ibadan Circular Road (ongoing) among others.
“These projects are all geared toward economic integration, reducing travel time, and improving access to rural communities,” he stated.
Earlier in his address, Hon. Kamorudeen Mudashiru, the executive chairman of Lagelu Local Government, expressed gratitude to the governor for enabling financial autonomy at the local level.
He revealed that the dualised road was wholly conceived and executed by the local government, a feat made possible by the improved fiscal independence under Makinde’s leadership.
“This road is proof that with autonomy, local governments in Oyo can deliver massive infrastructure projects that directly impact the people,” he said.
Engr. Okoro Hyginus, a representative of Samchase Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, commended the administration for its trust and the local community for their cooperation.
He explained that the road’s construction meets modern engineering standards and will facilitate traffic flow and economic activities.
In their separate goodwill messages, representatives including Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency at the federal House of Representatives, Hon. Akintunde Olajide (Lagelu State Constituency), Chief (Mrs.) Wulemotu Ibitoye (Oyo PDP Women Leader), applauded Governor Makinde for delivering the dividends of democracy to them in fulfillment of his reelection electoral promises.
Also speaking, the Ololorunda of Olorunda Abaa, Oba Samuel Abiodun Folarin, and Chief (Dr) Yemi Soladoye, former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, praised the governor for fulfilling his promises to the grassroots.
The event drew high-profile attendees, including former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin (represented by Hon. Gbenga Oyekola), Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazim Adeniyi, state commissioners, service commanders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and chairmen of various local governments areas.
