The Speaker of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his outstanding and people-focused leadership as he marks six years in office, describing the administration as a benchmark for good governance in Nigeria.
In a statement on Thursday, May 29, to commemorate the sixth anniversary of Governor Makinde’s administration, the Speaker highlighted the Governor’s achievements across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development, and security.
“Hearty Congratulations to Governor Seyi Makinde on another year of progressive and responsive governance. Your visionary leadership continues to redefine public service through people-centered policies and strategic investments.
“Your unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive development has not only earned you the trust of the people but also positioned Oyo State as a model of good governance in Nigeria.”
Ogundoyin noted the remarkable transformation under the Makinde administration, especially in the area of infrastructure.
According to him, the administration has completed over 335 kilometers of roads, with an additional 273 kilometers currently under construction, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activities across the state.
He further praised the Governor’s commitment to social welfare, citing the consistent payment of workers’ salaries, including a 13th-month salary for five consecutive years, an unprecedented move in the history of the state.
He added that the monthly allocation for the payment of retirees’ gratuities has also been increased, alleviating the burden on pensioners.
On security, the Speaker applauded the establishment and expansion of the Oyo Amotekun Corps, which he said has significantly enhanced community-based security, creating a safer environment for residents.
In the education sector, Ogundoyin highlighted the recruitment of over 19,500 primary and secondary school teachers—90% of whom were employed based on merit, as a major stride.
He also commended the state’s sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), noting that the move has paved the way for improved management and development of the institution.
Healthcare delivery has also witnessed substantial improvements, the Speaker noted, with the renovation and equipping of numerous Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
He also explained that the recruitment of medical personnel and the establishment of oxygen plants in major hospitals have enhanced emergency response capabilities.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has clearly changed the narratives of governance in Oyo State,” Ogundoyin declared.
The Ibarapa born second term speaker of the state legislature reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyo State House of Assembly to continue supporting the Governor’s vision and developmental agenda.
“We, as lawmakers, are proud to be part of this journey. We will continue to provide the necessary legislative support to ensure the realization of the Governor’s developmental agenda for our dear State,” he said.
The Speaker however, prayed for Governor Makinde on continued success, wisdom, and strength in his ongoing mission to lead Oyo State to greater heights.
