The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the appointment of Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary of the party.
This decision was taken at the 600th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), held on April 29, 2025.
In a letter jointly signed by the Acting National Chairman of the party, H.E. Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, and the newly appointed Acting National Secretary, Hon. Koshoedo, the PDP said the decision was in line with the provisions of Sections 29(2) and 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
The party’s national working committee’s resolution was equally posted on the PDP official Facebook page on Sunday, June 29.
The letter reads in part:
“We write to formally inform the Commission that the leadership of our Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at its 600th National Working Committee (NWC) Meeting held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, resolved and directed that the Deputy National Secretary (DNS), Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo, assume office as Acting National Secretary till further notice.”
The party requested that INEC update its records to reflect the change and provide all necessary support to Hon. Koshoedo in the discharge of his duties.
“We therefore officially request that the Commission update its records to reflect this change and please accord the Ag. National Secretary, Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo, all the necessary support to perform his constitutional duties,” the letter continued.
While no specific reason was given for the change in office, party insiders believe the move is part of ongoing internal reorganization within the PDP leadership.
The PDP also urged INEC to acknowledge receipt and implementation of the resolution and assured the commission of its continued cooperation.
