The Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ), Oyo State Chapter, has extended warm congratulations to the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, describing his emergence as a welcome and progressive development for the journalism profession in the state.
The statement also felicitates the newly elected Secretary of Oyo NUJ Council, Comrade Dayo Adu, who is also an executive member of the state chapter of NACJ as well as other elected officials.
The felicitation was conveyed on behalf of the Association by its Chairman, Comrade Lekan Sobo Sobowale, who lauded the leadership qualities, credibility, and professional track record of the newly elected NUJ Chairman.
In a statement issued by the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeola Badru, NACJ commended Comrade Abas as “a distinguished media professional whose commitment to ethical reportage and passion for societal development continue to set him apart within the journalism community.”
Comrade Sobowale further stated that Comrade Abas’s emergence reflected the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues, noting that his experience, integrity, and calm disposition will strengthen the Union’s capacity to respond to contemporary challenges within the media space.
He remarked: “Comrade Akeem Abas has consistently demonstrated unwavering professionalism and an exemplary work ethic. His leadership comes at a time when the journalism profession demands resilience, unity, and a renewed commitment to truth and responsibility.”
NACJ, Oyo State Chapter, emphasised that it looked forward to a productive relationship with the NUJ leadership, particularly in advancing ethical standards, fostering responsible journalism, and promoting welfare-oriented initiatives for media practitioners.
The Association pledged its willingness to collaborate on programmes that enhance capacity-building and strengthen the moral fabric of the profession.
“We are confident that Comrade Abas will lead with wisdom, fairness, and vision, ensuring that journalists in Oyo State continue to play meaningful roles in national development,” the statement added.
The NACJ Chairman, however, prayed for God’s guidance, divine wisdom, and a successful tenure for the new NUJ Chairman, while wishing him impactful leadership and remarkable achievements ahead.
