The Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde and former Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adejumobi Samuel, popularly known as Agbarapo, has declared that there will be no power vacuum in Agodi Government House in 2027, insisting that the governor will successfully hand over to a successor of his choice.
This was as he attributed what he called ‘alignment of anti progress’ forces in Oyo state as a move to hoodwink unsuspecting members of of the public into hoping that the opposition has anything to offer by gathering together all those who could not fit into the current system that deepens good governance in the state under the Makinde led government.
Agbarapo said this while speaking on the political direction of the state on Friday in Ibadan while playing host to some PDP stakeholders, stressing that Governor Makinde’s performance has earned him widespread acceptance among the people of Oyo State, with resistance coming only from opposition elements.
According to him, the electorate has had the opportunity to compare governance styles under the All Progressives Congress administration between 2011 and 2019 and the Peoples Democratic Party administration from 2019 to date, adding that the contrast has been clear.
“The people of Oyo State have tasted both bad and good governance. They now understand that delivering good governance does not require rocket science, just sincerity of purpose and commitment to the people,” he said.
Agbarapo noted that Governor Makinde has continued to redefine the political and governance landscape in the state, describing the achievements of the current administration as so impactful that they appear like “abracadabra” to the opposition.
He maintained that irrespective of developments and alignments at the national political level, the people of Oyo State would prioritise continuity in policies and programmes that directly affect their wellbeing than to start all over again under an opposition.
“The people will choose sustainable development. They will choose uninterrupted payment of workers’ salaries, regular payment of pensions and gratuities for those who served the state meritoriously, and consistent improvement in infrastructure across sectors,” he said.
Agbarapo added that the Makinde administration has demonstrated that it is possible to improve internally generated revenue without imposing additional tax burdens on citizens, while also investing in quality and accessible education, strengthening security of lives and property, and promoting inclusive growth.
He further explained that residents of the state are keenly observing events at the national level, particularly the economic management of the APC-led federal government as the country approaches the 2026 fiscal year.
“Nigerians, including the people of Oyo State, are wiser now. They are watching closely. They will always choose leadership that protects them from endless harsh economic policies that continue to impoverish the common man,” Agbarapo added.
He expressed confidence that the electorate would again align with a leadership style they consider people-centred and development-driven, regardless of shifting political currents at the national level.
