The Oyo State Police Command has placed residents across the state, particularly in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area, on heightened alert following the discovery of an alleged threat note believed to have been authored by suspected bandits.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Command confirmed receipt of credible information concerning a handwritten note, written in both Yoruba and English, reportedly dropped in front of a residential building in Ikoyi-Ile.
The note allegedly threatened an attack on the community, prompting immediate security action.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has activated the Command’s intelligence, tactical and operational response framework upon receiving the report.
According to the statement, the State Intelligence Department, working closely with tactical units, has commenced intensive debriefing of individuals connected to the discovery of the note, while operational assets have been deployed and repositioned across Ikoyi-Ile and neighbouring communities.
As part of visible security measures, armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance and strategic area domination have been significantly reinforced.
Police personnel have been placed on 24-hour high alert, with sustained ground presence aimed at denying criminal elements any opportunity to exploit the situation.
The Area Command has also been directed to ensure constant supervision and uninterrupted patrol coverage within the axis.
The Command disclosed that a comprehensive, intelligence-driven investigation is ongoing to determine the origin, authenticity and intent of the alleged threat.
It assured that all leads are being pursued and that anyone found responsible would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
While urging vigilance, the police reassured residents that there was no cause for panic.
The statement noted that robust security measures had already been activated to protect lives and property, adding that increased police visibility and engagement should be expected in the affected areas.
The Oyo State Police Command also confirmed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and community-based security stakeholders to maintain a unified and proactive security posture across the state.
Residents were encouraged to continue their lawful activities while remaining security-conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
