The Ibadan House of Lords, a socio cultural organisation of Ibadan indigenes with affiliation to the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), has congratulated its Grand Patron, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on his appointment as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
This was as the group also commended governor Seyi Makinde, who it described as a pride of not only Ibadan but the entire Yorubaland, for reviving the Council of Obas and Chiefs in the state without any rancour.
It further praised the governor for his unwavering commitment to inclusive governance which it said has immensely deepened democracy in the state.
In a congratulatory message on Thursday, the group described the appointment as well deserved and a recognition of the Olubadan’s influence, wisdom, and enduring leadership role in the traditional institution of the state.
The organisation noted that the Olubadan’s emergence as chairman reaffirmed the historic position of Ibadanland in the sociopolitical and cultural evolution of Oyo State, adding that the monarch’s experience in governance at both national and state levels as well as his calm disposition would contribute to stability and unity within the council.
Ibadan House of Lords explained that it is a club exclusively for men of Ibadan paternal origin, made up of individuals of proven integrity and strong sense of responsibility.
It said the name of the organisation was drawn from the history of Ibadanland as a city founded and defended by renowned warlords, often referred to as the House of Warlords.
According to the group, its mission is to improve the quality of life of its members and the wider Ibadanland through compassion, collective effort and initiatives deliberately targeted at addressing social challenges, economic imbalance, and promoting development in the ancient city.
The club described itself as a non religious and non partisan socio economic and cultural organisation, with objectives that include fostering social integration, encouraging business networking, promoting the socio cultural relevance of its members, and contributing to the social and economic development of Ibadanland and Nigeria at large.
The organisation also stated that it is a registered member of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the umbrella body of all clubs and associations in Ibadanland.
While congratulating the Olubadan, the Ibadan House of Lords expressed confidence that His leadership as chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs would strengthen traditional governance and enhance cooperation among royal fathers in the state.
