The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has described the late Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola as a timeless reference point for leadership and public service in Nigeria.
The Speaker made this known in a Facebook post following his attendance at the 60th Anniversary Memorial of the late sage and former Premier of the old Western Region, held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
According to him, the memorial was a solemn occasion that brought together eminent personalities from across the country to reflect on the life, times, and enduring contributions of Chief Akintola to Nigeria’s political development.
Among those present were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside other distinguished leaders and stakeholders.
The Speaker noted that as fond memories of Chief Akintola were relived, participants were reminded of his visionary leadership, courage, and firm convictions at critical moments in the nation’s history.
He described Akintola’s legacy of service, commitment to governance, and dedication to the ideals of the Western Region as values that continue to resonate with leaders of today, decades after his passing.
“His life remains a powerful lesson in conviction, sacrifice, and purposeful leadership.”
The lawmaker added that the late Premier’s contributions remain a guiding light for present and future generations.
He however, offered prayers for the repose of Chief Akintola’s soul and expressed hope that his ideals would continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
He also reiterated the commitment of the state legislature to the ideals of good governance and entrenched democracy, assuring that the Oyo state legislature under his watch will continue to be partner in progress with the executive arm of government to improve their quality of life.
