The All Progressives Congress has inaugurated its Media and Publicity Subcommittee ahead of the party’s 2026 National Convention scheduled to hold from March 25 to 28.
The committee was inaugurated on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who also serves as co-chairman of the subcommittee.
Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom during the inauguration, Idris described the forthcoming convention as a significant milestone for the ruling party, noting that it presents an opportunity to deepen internal democracy and reinforce the party’s commitment to national development.
“As you are all aware, this convention is a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria,” he said.
Idris stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable economic growth and long-term development.
According to him, the ruling party remains committed to supporting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the upcoming convention will further demonstrate the party’s unity and discipline.
“As a party, the APC remains committed to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, and this forthcoming convention provides another opportunity to demonstrate our unity, discipline and shared commitment to national progress,” he said.
The minister stressed that the committee’s assignment is strategic, particularly in shaping public understanding of the convention and its outcomes.
“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is therefore both strategic and vital. In today’s fast-paced information environment, the success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” Idris said.
He explained that the committee’s responsibilities extend beyond publicity to ensuring accurate dissemination of information, promoting transparency, coordinating media engagement and projecting the convention’s activities both locally and internationally.
“Your role goes beyond publicity; it involves ensuring accurate information dissemination, promoting transparency, coordinating media engagement and projecting the process and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community,” he added.
Idris further outlined the specific tasks assigned to the committee. These include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other convention subcommittees on media-related engagements, report writing and documentation, media monitoring and evaluation, as well as the coordination of all media activities for the convention.
He urged members of the committee to approach their assignment with professionalism and creativity.
“I encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity and a strong sense of duty.
“By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered, while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.
Congratulating the members on their appointment, the minister expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a successful convention.
“On behalf of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, I congratulate all members of this committee on your well-deserved appointment.
“I am confident that your collective experience and expertise will contribute greatly to the success of the 2026 APC National Convention,” he added.
The minister thereafter formally declared the committee inaugurated.
The party had earlier, in December 2025, released a comprehensive schedule of activities for its 2025/2026 nationwide ward, local government, state and zonal congresses, which will culminate in the national convention.
According to the timetable signed by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, the congresses are being conducted in line with Articles 11 and 17 of the party’s constitution and are aimed at electing party officials across all levels.
