A member of the Agunloye royal house in Oyo Town, Prince Kehinde Oladimeji, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Atiba State Constituency, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oladimeji made the declaration at a well-attended political stakeholders meeting in Oyo, where community leaders, youth groups, and artisans and trade unions converged to witness what many described as the beginning of a new chapter in the constituency’s political journey.
Addressing supporters, the aspirant said his decision to join the race was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to his people and a desire to bring responsive and people-oriented representation to the state legislature.
“I am stepping forward at this critical time because I believe our constituency deserves a stronger voice and more purposeful engagement in the Oyo State House of Assembly,” Oladimeji said.
“This is not just about ambition, it is about service, accountability, and creating real opportunities for our people.”
He emphasized the need for effective lawmaking that directly addresses grassroots challenges, noting that issues such as youth unemployment, infrastructure deficits, and access to quality education require deliberate legislative attention.
“Our people are hardworking and resilient, but they need support through policies that truly reflect their realities.
“I am committed to championing laws and motions that will improve livelihoods and open up economic opportunities particularly for my people in Oyo and the state as a whole,” he added.
Oladimeji also pledged to prioritize regular consultation with constituents, promising an open-door approach that ensures inclusivity in decision-making.
“I will not be a distant representative. I intend to maintain constant engagement with the people of Atiba, to listen, to learn, and to act in their best interest at all times,” he said.
Speaking at the event, a community leader fondly called Alhaji Sikiru, described Oladimeji as a candidate with both pedigree and a clear understanding of local needs.
“Prince Kehinde Oladimeji represents a blend of tradition and modern leadership. He understands our history, but more importantly, he has the vision to take us forward,” Adebayo said.
Youth representatives at the event also expressed optimism about the aspirant’s candidacy, citing his accessibility and longstanding involvement in community development initiatives in Oyo town.
“We need someone who relates with young people and understands our struggles. From what we have seen, he is someone who listens and is willing to act,” said a youth leader, Adewale.
Other stakeholders at the event noted that Oladimeji’s entry into the race is likely to reshape the dynamics of the Atiba State Constituency contest, especially given his royal lineage and growing grassroots support.
While he did not formally disclose his party affiliation during the declaration, Oladimeji hinted that consultations were ongoing and that his eventual platform would align with his vision for inclusive governance and sustainable development.
“As we move forward, I will continue to consult widely. What matters most is choosing a platform that allows us to truly serve the people and deliver measurable progress,” he stated.
