The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, stating that his decision was driven by a strong and collective call from his people across Ibarapaland.
Ogundoyin made the declaration following a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the zone, where he said party faithful unanimously urged him to join the race for the state’s top seat.
According to him, the appeal from party stakeholders was both “clear and compelling,” leaving him with a sense of responsibility to heed the call.
“Leaders and stakeholders of the PDP across Ibarapaland, at our zonal meeting today, made a clear and compelling call for me to throw my hat in the ring for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State,” he said.
“In direct response to this, I have formally declared my intention to contest.”
The Speaker emphasized that his aspiration transcends personal ambition, describing it instead as a duty anchored on the collective aspirations of the people for purposeful governance.
“This decision goes beyond personal ambition. It is a responsibility shaped by the collective yearning of our people for focused, inclusive, and result-driven leadership,” Ogundoyin stated.
He expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to approach the race with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to public service.
“I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me, and I accept this responsibility with a clear understanding of the demands ahead and the commitment to serve with integrity and purpose,” he added.
Ogundoyin further disclosed that consultations extended beyond the zonal meeting, noting that stakeholders in his constituency in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, also expressed similar support for his governorship bid.
“I also met with stakeholders in my constituency, Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government, where the message was equally firm and aligned,” he said.
He maintained that the widespread endorsement indicates a readiness among his supporters to back his ambition, describing the moment as critical.
“Across board, the position is clear, our people are ready, and the moment is now. This is a defining step. The journey has begun,” Ogundoyin declared.
