…says construction of Bus Terminal Stations a waste of resources
Former federal lawmaker, Dapo Lam-Adesina, has urged whoever succeeds Governor Seyi Makinde to sustain and build upon his administration’s legacy of prioritising workers’ welfare and pensioners’ wellbeing in Oyo State.
Lam-Adesina made the disclosure on Saturday while featuring on the State Affairs podcast anchored by Edmund Obilo and monitored by westernmirror.
During the programme, he commended Makinde’s commitment to improving workers welfare and ensuring financial stability for retirees, describing it as one of the defining hallmarks of his administration.
According to him, the governor’s policies have restored confidence among civil servants and retirees, while also setting a standard for responsible governance in the state.
“Whoever takes over from Governor Makinde must sustain his legacy on workers’ welfare and pensioners’ benefits, prompt payment of workers salary and pension, is key,” Lam-Adesina said.
“Governance is about people, and any meaningful administration must place priority on the wellbeing of its workforce and those who have served diligently.”
He noted that prompt payment of salaries and pensions, coupled with efforts to clear arrears and implement reforms, has strengthened public service morale and contributed to socio-economic stability in the state.
The former lawmaker further observed that continuity in governance, especially in policies that directly impact citizens’ welfare, is essential for sustainable development.
He stressed that reversing such gains could undermine progress and erode public trust.
He added that the welfare of workers and pensioners remains a critical benchmark for assessing leadership performance, noting that Oyo State has witnessed notable improvements under the current administration.
While criticizing the governor over the landmark Circular Road construction, Lam-Adesina said such project was a misplaced priority for the state.
He also criticized the construction of Bus Terminal Stations constructed by Makinde, wondering what benefit they serve to the people of the state.
“We’re building Terminal stations, what’s the benefits of Terminal stations to the economy of Oyo state?”
“What’s the benefit? because tomorrow, that place is not going to be maintained. A couple of years now, you’ll see how dilapidated it will be,” he said.
He affirmed that construction of the “Terminal stations are a waste of resources, that’s just what I’m saying in simple term,” he added.
