The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Saka Moshood, has congratulated the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Seun Ashamu, on his emergence as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Oyo Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to a congratulatory message on Saturday morning, Moshood described Ashamu’s emergence as both timely and well-deserved, noting that it reflects the party’s confidence in his competence, loyalty, and track record in public service.
He recalled their shared experience in the energy sector, where both men worked in different capacities but closely on policy implementation and strategic initiatives that, according to him, left a lasting impact.
Those years, he suggested, offered a clear window into Ashamu’s work ethic and capacity to deliver under pressure.
“Ashamu is not just prepared for the task ahead; he has been tested in environments that demand both technical depth and political understanding, his emergence is a natural progression,” Moshood said.
The governor’s aide also highlighted Ashamu’s previous role as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, describing it as another phase in a career defined by steady responsibility and visible results.
According to him, the breadth of Ashamu’s experience across critical sectors of governance positions him as a candidate with both administrative strength and legislative promise.
Aligning with Governor Makinde’s often repeated position that “the reward for good work is more work,” Moshood said Ashamu embodies that principle.
He characterized him as “a round peg in a round hole,” someone whose skills and experience match the demands of representation at the National Assembly.
Looking ahead to the 2027 polls, Moshood expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the Oyo Federal Constituency, stating that with party unity and grassroots support, victory is within reach.
He added that Ashamu’s political background is further strengthened by a deep-rooted legacy, pointing to the influence of his mother, a former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and ex-Senator.
“That political heritage is not just symbolic,” Moshood noted. “It provides a tested compass, one that will guide strategy, mobilization, and engagement as the campaign unfolds.”
He urged party stakeholders and constituents to rally behind Ashamu, describing the forthcoming election as an opportunity to secure “quality, experienced, and people-focused representation” at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
