The South West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its full alignment with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, while pledging its unfettered loyalty to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Barrister Aminu Turaki.
The South West Executive Council of the party, stated this position on Monday during a press conference held at the Adagunodo House of the PDP zonal headquarters, Ibadan.
The Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, who read the excos address to the press, said the Southwest Zonal Executive Committee stands in solidarity with Nigerians amid prevailing economic hardship and security challenges across the country.
Atofarati noted that the party in the South West region remains committed to presenting what he described as a credible alternative rooted in people-oriented governance, stability, and national development.
The PDP Southwest also threw its weight behind Governor Makinde, praising his administration for what it termed consistent delivery of democratic dividends and a firm commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
“The Southwest Zonal Executive Committee unequivocally identifies with and stands firmly behind Governor Seyi Makinde, whose leadership continues to exemplify stability, focus, and dedication to the welfare of the people,” the statement read.
The party dismissed as unfounded recent rumours of an impeachment plot against the governor, describing them as a calculated attempt to foment political tension. It urged Nigerians to disregard such claims.
The zone further took a swipe at former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, condemning what it called “reckless and divisive” remarks allegedly capable of inciting discord, particularly through the politicisation of traditional institutions.
According to the statement, such comments were “irresponsible and self-serving,” stressing that they do not reflect the values or position of the party in the Southwest.
The zonal leadership of the party equally dismissed what it called ‘rumored impeachment plot against governor Makinde, describing it as baseless and unfound.
The party noted that the former Ekiti governor remains expelled from the party and as such, should desist from political activities or engagements that are targeted at creating discord between the Makinde led administration and the Olubadan Palace.
It also warned Fayose to desist from drawing the exalted Olubadan stool into politics, stressing that the relationship between His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ladoja and Governor Makinde remains cordial, robust and reflective of father and son posture.
The PDP Southwest called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and united, warning against attempts by “disgruntled political actors” to destabilise the polity for personal gain.
Reaffirming its stance on internal cohesion, the zone pledged total support for the Turaki-led NWC, emphasizing the need for unity, discipline, and collective purpose within the party structure.
The party also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their resilience and continued faith in the PDP.
The party assured that it remains committed to providing responsible leadership and steering the country toward a more stable and prosperous future.
