The Oyo State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Christian Forum (PCF) has paid a solidarity visit to the state’s Interfaith Office and has expressed confidence in the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The body reaffirmed its support for Governor Seyi Makinde amid what it described as “unfounded and politically motivated” impeachment rumors.
The delegation, led by the Forum’s President, Mr. Adeniyi Aderemi, alongside its Secretary, Evangelist Daniel Oluwaseyi, said the visit was geared towards strengthening religious harmony while also aligning with the governor amid growing political tensions in the state.
Speaking during a visit to the Interfaith Office on Monday, Aderemi dismissed reports of any impeachment plot against the governor as baseless, insisting that such narratives were being orchestrated by “desperate political actors” seeking to destabilize the state.
The visit comes amid heightened political speculation in the state, with various groups either debunking or amplifying claims of a looming impeachment move.
However, the PDP Christian Forum maintained that there is no credible basis for such claims, describing them as distractions from governance.
The group pledged continued support for the Makinde administration and called on party members and residents to remain steadfast in promoting peace, unity, and democratic stability in Oyo State.
The group equally expressed dismayed at the manner in which opposition elements have heightened political campaigns and sponsoring narratives in the media aimed at distracting the governor from focusing on the business of governance.
They disclosed that the body is united and deeply rooted across different denominations and churches in the state, noting that it would continue to advocate for a political environment where political actors freely sell their blueprints and manifestos to the electorate.
“We are here not just as party faithful, but as stakeholders committed to peace, unity, and the continued progress of Oyo State.
“Governor Makinde has demonstrated leadership anchored on fairness, inclusivity, and respect for all faiths. Any attempt to undermine that through false allegations must be resisted,” he said.
The Forum emphasized that the administration’s commitment to religious tolerance and good governance has earned it broad-based support across Christian and Muslim communities, noting that the Interfaith Office remains a symbol of the governor’s dedication to unity.
Evangelist Oluwaseyi, in his remarks, urged political actors to refrain from actions capable of heating up the polity, warning that the spread of misinformation could erode public trust and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the state.
“We call on all well-meaning citizens to disregard rumors of impeachment and instead focus on sustaining the developmental strides being witnessed across Oyo State under the Makinde led government,” he said.
In his response, the Special Assistant to the governor on Interfaith Matters, commended the Forum for its show of solidarity and reiterated the importance of continuous dialogue among religious and political stakeholders to preserve harmony.
He assured that the governor remains focused, committed, and unbothered about the rumor stressing that such political gimmicks only make Makinde more resolute in delivering good governance to the people of the state.
