The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has emerged unopposed as the consensus candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the Ibarapa East State Constituency ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Ogundoyin was affirmed on Thursday during the party’s consensus and affirmation process held at the APM secretariat in Eruwa, the headquarters of Ibarapa East Local Government Area.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that the consensus exercise is part of the ongoing preparations by the APM for the next general elections in Oyo State, with party leaders expressing confidence in the capacity of the candidates to consolidate on existing developmental strides across the state.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, the Speaker described the exercise as another important milestone in the democratic journey of the party.
He equally expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
“Today was another significant step in our collective democratic journey as I participated in the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) consensus and affirmation processes ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
“I was deeply honoured to be affirmed as the APM consensus candidate for Ibarapa East State Constituency at our party secretariat in Eruwa.
“I sincerely appreciate party leaders, stakeholders, delegates and faithful supporters for the confidence reposed in me. I do not take this trust for granted,” he said.
Following the constituency affirmation exercise, Ogundoyin joined the Oyo State Governor, , alongside other party faithful at the Watershed Event Centre, Ibadan, for the governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives consensus programme organised by the party.
The Speaker noted that the turnout and conduct of party members at the gathering reflected the growing acceptance and strength of the APM across the state.
According to him, the consensus arrangement adopted by the party demonstrated political maturity and commitment to unity among party stakeholders and aspirants.
“The gathering once again reflected the strength, unity and growing acceptance of our party across Oyo State,” Ogundoyin stated.
“I commend the maturity displayed by aspirants and stakeholders in embracing consensus as a tool for unity, stability and collective advancement.”
He also lauded Governor Makinde for what he described as purposeful leadership and political inclusiveness, saying the governor’s style of governance had continued to attract admiration beyond the boundaries of Oyo State.
“Governor Seyi Makinde continues to distinguish himself through purposeful leadership which has earned him admiration far beyond Oyo State,” he added.
Ogundoyin further expressed optimism that the party would continue to grow stronger and more united ahead of the elections.
“I remain confident that our party will continue to emerge stronger and more united for the task ahead,” he said.
