Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Friday paid a solidarity visit to former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, following the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Busayo John-Paul and her twin sons by suspected kidnappers.
The governor’s visit came amid growing concern over the security situation surrounding the incident, which has drawn widespread attention across Oyo State and beyond.
Makinde, who visited the private residence of the former minister in Ibadan, expressed sympathy with the Adelabu family and assured them that the state government, working in collaboration with security agencies, would continue to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
The governor described the incident as unfortunate and distressing, noting that every available security resource was being deployed to ensure a positive outcome.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to undermine the peace and stability being enjoyed in Oyo.
Recall that the victims were abducted during the week by gunmen under circumstances that have since triggered extensive security operations aimed at locating and rescuing them unharmed.
Makinde used the visit to reassure residents that the government remains resolute in confronting insecurity and strengthening intelligence gathering mechanisms across the state.
The governor also appealed to members of the public to support ongoing rescue efforts by providing useful information to security agencies while avoiding the spread of unverified reports capable of hampering investigations.
“You’re all aware of what happened to my brother, their last born. I actually came to brief him what the government has been doing regarding that incident and to let him know that by God’s grace wr will bring them back safely.
Responding, Adelabu thanked the governor for the visit and for demonstrating concern for the family during the difficult period.
He expressed appreciation for the efforts of security agencies and urged them to sustain the momentum until the victims regain their freedom.
The former minister noted that the solidarity shown by the governor and other well-meaning Nigerians had provided encouragement to the family as they await the safe return of their loved ones.
The abduction has however, continued to generate reactions from political leaders, community stakeholders and residents, with many calling for intensified security measures to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
Security agencies have yet to release detailed information on the circumstances surrounding the rescue operation.
