The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has disclosed that it is currently holding discussions with several serving senators, members of the House of Representatives and other political leaders across the country as part of efforts to strengthen its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Yusuf, following enquiries from members and supporters over recent political developments within the party.
According to the statement, the latest move came on the heels of the formal reception of the Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, who recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APM.
This was as the party also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for what it described as growing support for the APM and its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that the governor represents the aspirations of citizens seeking a new direction for the country.
The party noted that Senator Onawo announced his defection during Tuesday’s Senate plenary before he was officially received at the APM National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, alongside other party leaders.
APM described the lawmaker as a seasoned politician with extensive legislative experience, having served as a two-term Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, a two-term member of the House of Representatives and now a serving senator.
The party said Onawo’s record of public service and grassroots political engagement aligns with the ideals and guiding principles of the party.
Speaking during the reception, the National Chairman, Alhaji Dantalle, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its “Nigeria First” philosophy, saying the APM remains determined to provide an alternative platform capable of addressing the nation’s socio-economic and political challenges.
He expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections, particularly the presidential contest, with the aim of restoring peace, unity and economic prosperity across the country.
The APM chairman also revealed that discussions with more federal lawmakers and influential political figures were ongoing, expressing optimism that additional defections would further strengthen the party’s nationwide structure.
