Strong indications have emerged that a former political ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Alhaji Abass Oloko, may be on the verge of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This follows a meeting with the party’s deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, Hon. Adesoji Adedeji.
Although neither Oloko nor the APC has officially confirmed the move, sources familiar with the development told Westernmirror.com.ng that consultations are ongoing and could culminate in his formal defection in the coming days or weeks.
The meeting between Oloko and Adedeji has fueled speculation about an imminent political realignment, with insiders suggesting that discussions focused on the future political direction of the Ibadan Mogaji (family head).
Oloko, who was once regarded as one of Governor Makinde’s close political associates, has announced his defection from the governor’s camp while holidaying in the United States of America.
Party sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to comment publicly on the matter, hinted that the APC leadership is optimistic about Oloko’s potential entry into the party.
According to the sources, his eventual defection, if it materialises, could strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“The discussions are encouraging, but nothing has been made official yet. Consultations are still ongoing,” one of the sources said.
Neither Oloko nor the APC in the state has made any statement on the purpose or outcome of the meeting as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid increasing political consultations, alliances and realignments across Oyo State as political parties continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
