Oil and gas industry veteran and Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo State Council, Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, has emerged the new National President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Olabiyi-Agoro was elected unopposed at the association’s first Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Abuja on Saturday, succeeding Festus Osifo, who currently serves as President of the TUC.
The new PENGASSAN president is a petroleum engineer, labour leader and industrial relations strategist with more than two decades of experience spanning Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, regulatory practice and organised labour.
He currently serves with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), having previously built a strong technical and operational career with major industry players, including Baker Hughes and EA Temile and Sons.
Olabiyi-Agoro’s professional experience is complemented by extensive academic training. He holds a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom; a Postgraduate Certificate in Computing from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom; and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
He is also an alumnus of Government College Ibadan. A veteran of organised labour, Olabiyi-Agoro currently chairs the Oyo State Council of the TUC and has occupied several leadership positions within PENGASSAN.
He served as the association’s National Financial Secretary from 2022 to 2023, National Auditor from 2020 to 2022, and Chairman of the Baker Hughes PENGASSAN Branch between 2016 and 2020.
Over the years, he has participated in various local and international training programmes in leadership, negotiation, industrial relations and related fields, further strengthening his experience in labour administration and collective bargaining.
His emergence is expected to bring his blend of technical expertise, industry knowledge and trade union experience to the leadership of PENGASSAN as the association begins a new phase.
In his acceptance speech, Olabiyi-Agoro pledged to prioritise the welfare and interests of workers while building on the achievements and legacies of his predecessor.
He also expressed commitment to strengthening the association and ensuring that the interests of its members remain central to its activities under his leadership.
