The Oyo State Police Command has clarified a viral video involving officers of the Kwara State Police Command who travelled to Ibadan on official duty to arrest one Mr. Tani Olohun.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday, August 25, 2026, by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
The Oyo Police Spokesman said the Kwara officers were acting on a warrant of arrest issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin.
According to the Command, the warrant was issued in connection with allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The police explained that the arrest warrant followed the alleged failure of Tani Olohun to comply with the conditions attached to a bail earlier granted to him, prompting the court to order his arrest.
However, following a report on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the Kwara officers to return to their base and advised the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged location where the offence was committed.
The Command said the directive was in line with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction.
The Oyo Police Command consequently urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against actions capable of disturbing public peace or escalating the situation.
It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that complaints are handled professionally and in accordance with extant laws.
