The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanbi, has pledged to support the transformation of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) into one of Nigeria’s leading and most successful football clubs.
Adekanbi made the commitment while congratulating the Oluyole Warriors on their impressive victory over Inter Lagos in the opening fixture of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The APM candidate, who described the victory as an encouraging way to begin the new campaign, said the performance had rekindled optimism among supporters of the historic Ibadan-based club.
“What a way to begin the season! Congratulations to Shooting Stars on the victory over Inter Lagos in the opening game of the 2026/27 NPFL season,” Adekanbi said.
He noted that Shooting Stars occupies a special place in the history and identity of Oyo State, stressing that the fortunes of the club are closely connected to the aspirations and emotions of its supporters.
According to him, a thriving 3SC would not only bring sporting glory to the state but also provide inspiration and opportunities for young people seeking to develop their talents.
“As someone passionate about sports, I know what a thriving Shooting Stars means to the people of Oyo State. I have seen the transformation under His Excellency, Governor Seyi Mankinde’s administration and share in the renewed belief around our Oluyole Warriors,” he said.
Adekanbi emphasised the critical role of sports in society, describing it as an important instrument for fostering unity, communal spirit and positive engagement among young people.
He said sporting development should therefore go beyond winning trophies, arguing that government and other stakeholders must create an environment where talented young people can develop their abilities and pursue sustainable careers.
“Sport brings us together, gives us something to believe in, and strengthens the bonds that make a community. That is why empowering our sporting talents and creating opportunities for our young people matters,” he said.
The governorship hopeful further promised that the progress recorded by Shooting Stars would be built upon, expressing his determination to see the club attain greater heights and reclaim its position among Nigeria’s elite football sides.
“This is only the beginning, and we will build on this progress to take Shooting Stars to even greater heights,” Adekanbi stated.
He wished the club a successful 2026/27 NPFL campaign, urging the players and technical crew to maintain their winning mentality throughout the season.
“I wish 3SC a successful season ahead. Keep winning. Keep making Oyo State proud. You will always have our support,” he added.
