The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has sustained the humanitarian legacy of his late mother, Chief Mrs. Justina Iyabode Ogundoyin, by distributing food items, clothes and cash to hundreds of widows and widowers drawn from the ten wards of Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The programme, held on Saturday at the Ori-Oke residence of the Ogundoyin family, was organised as part of the Speaker’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable members of his community, particularly widows and widowers who often face economic and social challenges.
The initiative, according to the Speaker, was a continuation of the support programme established by his late mother, who devoted considerable attention to the welfare of widows and other less-privileged members of society during her lifetime.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin said he considered it a responsibility to sustain the humanitarian tradition of his late mother, ensuring that her compassion for the vulnerable continued to make a difference in the lives of the people of Ibarapa East.
He explained that the distribution of food items, clothing and cash was intended to provide relief to the beneficiaries while reaffirming his commitment to preserving the values of kindness, generosity and community service that his mother represented.
The Speaker noted that the initiative was not merely about providing material assistance but also about demonstrating love, care and solidarity with widows and widowers, many of whom bear significant family responsibilities despite their personal and economic challenges.
The programme attracted notable personalities, leaders of APM in Ibarapa East LG and community leaders, including the South-West Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANT), Chief Mrs. Odunayo Danjuma, a close friend of the late Chief Mrs. Justina Iyabode Ogundoyin.
Chief Mrs. Danjuma commended the Speaker for sustaining his late mother’s humanitarian legacy, noting that such gestures reflected the enduring value of compassion, generosity and concern for the welfare of others.
She described the initiative as a worthy continuation of the humanitarian tradition associated with the late Chief Mrs. Ogundoyin and urged other well-meaning individuals to support vulnerable members of their communities, particularly those struggling to meet their daily needs.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Tafa Aishat, Mrs. Akinlade Funmilayo, Pa. Atilola Ezekiel and Mrs. Obatola Ibiyosi, expressed appreciation to the Speaker for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and meaningful.
They commended Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin for remembering them and providing support at a time when many households were grappling with rising living costs and other economic difficulties.
