The Caretaker Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, Honorable Abiodun Awoleye has urged the newly inaugurated state executive committee members of the party to prioritize unity, party cohesion, and collaboration ahead of future elections.
During the inauguration and handover ceremony held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday, October 14, Awoleye emphasized that the success of the PDP hinges on a united front.
The new PDP executives in Ogun state were elected at the last congress held in September 2024.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that the newly inaugurated PDP state executives will pilot the affairs of the party for a tenure of four years.
“Unity is key to achieving set goals in political parties. I thereby urge the new executives to bring everybody together, talk to all, and bring everyone under the umbrella; the party’s success depends on its togetherness.” Hon. Awoleye said.
Hon. Awoleye, while handing over to the new chairman, Abayomi Tella, encouraged the executives to do all within their capacity to secure the party’s victory in future general elections.
He emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement, urging the executives set aside personal interests in the overall interest of the party, and endeavour to reach out to party members across the state.
“We must work together, put aside our differences, and focus on the common goal of winning the hearts of the people, the strength of our party lies in our ability to present a united and cohesive front.
“So, do well to reach out to all members of the party across the state including those may still be sitting on the fence to return home and build together because it is only a united front into an election that can guarantee electoral success.” Awoleye added.
In his acceptance speech, Tella assured that the executives would do all they could to rejuvenate and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that there are no factions in the party and urged aggrieved members to return to their roots.
He said, “In accordance with the law that created our party called PDP, a congress is held, and it is the legal congress; every other one is a nullity.
“Twins born on the same day with the same umbilical cord have differences, and where interests abound, there will be differences.
However, the ability to manage those interests is the main thing here, and I believe we’ve started.
“I have a team that is ready to go. We are going with that spirit to meet our people, even those in the other party who are currently suffering and smiling, to tell them to come; we built this party together, so come back and join us as we prepare to deliver the residents of the state from the inflicted hardship of the APC-led government.”
