Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged to unveil a clear and practical roadmap that will guide the state’s development beyond the end of his administration in 2027.
This was as he maintained that the era of taking the people of Oyo for granted is over.
He urged politicians vying for his office to brace up for real work of sustaining what he described as the ‘current music’s of good governance in the state, and not just about the fancy of the coveted number one office.
Makinde said sustainable progress must be built on strong institutions rather than strong individuals, stressing that good governance should be a continuous process, not a temporary performance tied to one administration.
“Don’t think you can take the people of Oyo State for granted anymore.
“You must sustain this music of good governance because what we are building are strong institutions, not strong individuals,” Makinde said.
The governor stated this on Thursday during his address at a one day symposium held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan as part of activities commemorating Oyo at 50 anniversary celebration.
The event brought together policymakers, academics, professionals, traditional rulers, and political stakeholders to reflect on governance, development and sustainability in Oyo State.
Makinde explained that while his administration is currently implementing the Omituntun 2.0 agenda, plans are already underway to ensure continuity of the state’s development vision beyond his tenure.
According to him, governance should be seen as a relay, not a solo race.
He vowed to support the next administration to ensure that the gains of his government are protected and expanded, noting that leadership responsibility does not end with leaving office.
“I am committed to supporting whoever comes after us to sustain this vision.
“Development must outlive the lifespan of any single government,” the governor added.
The governor added that Oyo State’s progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, health and institutional reforms should serve as a foundation for future administrations, not be discarded for political reasons.
