Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party, bringing an end to a long stretch of speculation that began as the party continues to navigate through internal challenges.
His resignation letter, dated November 4 and addressed to the Sagba Abogunde Ward 2 chairman in Ede, confirmed what many had considered inevitable.
He cited the lingering crisis within the national leadership of the PDP as the final push, noting that the situation had become too unstable to remain in the fold.
The move doesn’t come as a surprise to those who have followed the party’s troubles over the past months.
The PDP has been wrestling with parallel leadership claims, suspended officers issuing counter-directives, and factions dragging one another to court.
Several of those cases are still active and could decide the party’s fate ahead of critical future elections.
Across national dailies, analysts have repeatedly warned that the PDP risks a scenario where its internal litigations prevent it from fielding a legally recognised governorship candidate in multiple states.
The fear is particularly real in places where party factions have submitted competing delegates’ lists or conducted rival primaries.
Court rulings on such disputes have, in the past, cost political parties ballot access entirely.
Against that backdrop, Adeleke’s exit has finally put an end to the speculations surrounding his next political move.
While keeping mum on his next political party, Adeleke however, acknowledged in his letter the opportunities the PDP offered him over the years, from the Senate to the governorship.
