The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, marking a critical turn in the party’s ongoing internal realignments.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, during a press briefing at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
He was joined by prominent party leaders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other key stakeholders.
Damagum admitted that the decision to reinstate Anyanwu, an ally of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, into the National Working Committee (NWC) was “difficult” but ultimately necessary for the party’s cohesion.
“This was a critical decision,” Damagum said. “Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an extended Caucus.”
He further announced that the planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had been canceled, noting that the party would now hold an expanded caucus meeting instead.
“At the next Caucus, we will take a decision leading to a proper NEC,” he added.
The reinstatement follows a high-level meeting between PDP leaders and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, held on Tuesday in Abuja.
The meeting was aimed at resolving procedural disputes surrounding the party’s internal affairs and the scheduling of its NEC gathering.
