The auditorium of Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta State, took on a celebratory air on Saturday as the institution conferred a Doctor of Management Science (Honoris Causa) in Entrepreneurial Finance and Management on Mr. Bade Adeshina, founder of Ultra Goldfield Logistics Limited, United Kingdom.
The honour was part of activities marking the university’s combined 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th convocation ceremonies. It came shortly after the convocation lecture titled Africa’s Digital Destiny: Building Human Capital for a Connected Future, delivered by Davide Daser, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Bridge Institute.
Adeshina, a seasoned finance professional with nearly four decades of work across academia, banking, asset management and public service, brought a storied profile into the ceremony.
He holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees and is a fellow of several prestigious institutions including the Chartered Institute of Bankers, the Institute of Directors, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
His professional journey also reflects extensive executive training at elite global institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg, Wharton and the Lagos Business School.
Over the years, his work has spanned leadership roles in both private and public sectors, with a strong presence at board level in major corporate organisations.
He is also a fellow of the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria, the Association of Investment Advisers and Portfolio Managers, and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, alongside membership in the UK’s Chartered Securities and Investment Institute.
Beyond the boardroom, Adeshina is known for his contributions to innovation in logistics. Through Ultra Goldfield Logistics Limited, he has championed the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to drive efficiency in pricing, route optimisation and vehicle capacity management.
His public service record includes serving on the Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, where he chaired the Finance and General Purpose Committee and played a significant role in the institution’s peaceful ownership transition. He is also a speaker, facilitator and author with a footprint in both local and international publications.
Surrounded by family, friends and colleagues, Adeshina received the honour with visible gratitude. In his acceptance remarks, he reflected on the value of service, ethical leadership and continuous learning, saying the award reinforced his belief in the role of disciplined commitment in nation-building.
He added that the recognition was both a personal milestone and a call to deepen his contributions to sectors where his expertise can drive meaningful progress.
He expressed hope that his journey would encourage young Nigerians to stay focused on excellence and lead with integrity, especially in a world increasingly shaped by knowledge and innovation.
Adeshina joins a distinguished circle of past honourees, among them former President Goodluck Jonathan, who received a honorary doctorate during the university’s maiden convocation in 2019.
This year’s ceremony also marked a major institutional milestone with the induction of Edwin Clark University’s first set of Nursing Science graduands, signalling a significant step forward in its growing health sciences programme.
