Members of the G-14 lawmakers of the 5th Oyo State House of Assembly over the last weekend paid a courtesy visit to former Oyo State Governor and the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at his private residence in Ibadan.
The G-14 group, a coalition of former legislators known for their role in shaping key legislative actions during their tenure, expressed their appreciation for Oba Ladoja’s leadership and mentorship during his time as governor (2003–2007).
The G-14 lawmakers, who were the pro Ladoja during the illegal impeachment of the former governor in 2006 praised his contributions to Oyo State’s development and his dedication to promoting unity among political stakeholders in the state regardless of party affiliations.
Former Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Adeolu Adeleke, leader of the G-14 group led the former lawmakers to Oba Ladoja’s residence.
Some of the former lawmakers who were present at the courtesy visit include Honorables Olaniyan Babatunde, Simeon Oyeleke, and Femi Josiah among others.
Hon. Josiah, who confirmed the G-14 courtesy visit to the former governor, highlighted the purpose of the visit.
“We are here to pay our respects to one of Oyo State’s finest leaders and to draw inspiration from his wisdom as we continue to engage in our various capacities to serve our people,” he said.
According to the former aide to governor Makinde, Oba Ladoja, a seasoned politician and revered traditional ruler, welcomed the lawmakers warmly and hosted them to a sumptuous lunch.
Josiah, immediate past Special Assistant on Community Relations to governor Seyi Makinde, disclosed that Oba Ladoja commended efforts of the G-14 lawmakers in maintaining political integrity and urged them to prioritize the welfare of Oyo State residents in their current and future endeavors.
He quoted Oba Ladoja as saying: “As public servants, your responsibility to the people is paramount. It is gratifying to see you all maintaining the values we stood for during our time in office. Let us continue to work for the peace, unity, and prosperity of Oyo State.”
He also disclosed that Oba Ladoja has reaffirmed that his retirement from partisan politics would not stop him from engaging in developmental politics for the benefits of the people regardless of whichever party is in power.
He noted that the visit also served as a reunion for the lawmakers, who used the opportunity to reflect on their legislative achievements and discuss pathways to deepening collaboration with the traditional institution in the state.
The G-14 lawmakers have disclosed plans to continue to engage key stakeholders in the state with a view to bringing their legislative experience to beat on public administration in order to move the state forward while emphasizing their commitment to supporting policies and programs that align with the vision of a prosperous Oyo State.
