Hon. Rachael Averik, the Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Kaduna State Governor, narrowly escaped an ambush by suspected bandits in Southern Kaduna on Thursday.
The attack occurred between Tsauni Majidadi and Gani villages in Sanga Local Government Area as Averik was returning to Gwantu after attending a condolence visit and commissioning a hospital built by Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu in Arak Chiefdom earlier in the day.
Gunmen reportedly opened fire on her convoy, prompting a fierce gun battle between the assailants and her security detail. During the exchange, her driver and a police officer sustained gunshot wounds.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and the Kaduna State Government has condemned the attack, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing security in the state.
Despite the traumatic ordeal, Averik expressed gratitude for surviving the ambush and extended her sympathies to her injured team members.
