…As G-5 Members, Bode George, Others Visit Makinde Over Brother’s Death
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday led members of the G-5 former Governors and other political associates on a condolence visit to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following the death of his brother.
The visit held on Wednesday, February 5 at governor Makinde’s private residence in Ikolaba G.R.A, Ibadan.
Wike, alongside former governors and key political allies, expressed deep sympathies to Governor Makinde and his family and emphasized the importance of unity and support in difficult times.
He commended Makinde for his leadership and resilience and urged him to stay strong despite the personal loss.
“We are here to stand by our brother, Governor Makinde, in this trying time. Losing a loved one is never easy, and we want to assure him that he is not alone,” Wike said.
Speaking on the state of the nation’s economy, Wike urged Nigerians to remain patient and trust the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He reassured citizens that while the current reforms may be challenging, they are necessary steps toward long-term growth and stability.
“I’ve always said that people should be patient. This country was something else a few years ago. Nigerians always forget where we were and what efforts we’ve put in place,” Wike stated.
He acknowledged the hardships Nigerians are facing but maintained that the ongoing economic policies would yield positive results in due time.
“We have to give time. It’s not like a miracle thing. The policies Mr. President is putting in place are policies that, yes, will have some effects, people will feel it, but we will achieve what we want to achieve—that is the current situation,” he added.
Wike further emphasized that President Tinubu has the nation’s best interests at heart and urged Nigerians not to panic.
“For me, nobody should panic because Mr. President means well for the country,” he assured.
Wike was accompanied by former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Samuel Ortom as well as Senators Sandy Onor, Philip Aduda, Olaka Nwogu and Mao Ohuabunwa, Rt. Hon Chibudom Nwuche and others.
Meanwhile, Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former BoT Chairman, Chief Bode George had earlier led a delegation of party leaders including former governor of Osun state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to governor Makinde to commiserate with him over his brother’s death.
Governor Makinde in his separate brief remarks,l to both Wike and Chief Bode George’s entourage, expressed gratitude to Wike and other visitors for their show of support, acknowledging their solidarity during his time of grief.
He urged them to learn from the demise of his late brother whose death was unexpected and shocking to the entire family stressing that physical wellness should also form top priority of all particularly those in high public offices.
