The Oyo State Police Command has welcomed a new Commissioner of Police, as CP Johnson Oluwole Adenola, officially assumed duty, succeeding retired CP Ayodele Oluyemi Sonubi.
The state Police Public Relation Office CSP Adewale Osifeso, made this known in a statement forwarded to westernmirror.com.ng on Wednesday, March 12.
Born on May 6, 1966, in Ijebu Ipari-Nla, Ogun State, CP Adenola brings over three decades of vast experience in policing, spanning operations, investigations, intelligence, and staff duties.
According to the statement, CP Adenola’s career began in 1992 when he enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Since then, he has held several critical roles across Nigeria and internationally.
The statement disclosed further that the new Oyo Police boss served as a Civilian Police Mentor at the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone and as the Police Reforms and Restructuring Coordinator for the United Nations Mission in Sudan.
In his diverse career, CP Adenola has held key positions such as Divisional Traffic Officer in Lagos, O/C Homicide at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos, and Deputy Force Secretary at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Until his recent appointment, he served as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police.
CP Adenola’s vision for Oyo State focuses on enhancing security through an eight-step action plan. This includes enforcing strict discipline at all policing levels, promoting respect for the rule of law and citizens’ rights, embracing intelligence-driven policing, increasing officer supervision, and fostering community engagement and inter-agency collaboration.
Academically, CP Adenola holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ogun State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Ilorin. Outside policing, he enjoys playing badminton and chess. He is happily married to Mrs. Taibat Aderemi Adenola, and they are blessed with children.
The new commissioner takes over with a firm commitment to ensuring a safer Oyo State. Residents have been encouraged to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activities.
“If you see something, say something, and the Police will take action,” the Oyo State Police Command stated.
