The headquarters of Christ Embassy Church, located at the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State, has been razed by fire.
The incident which occurred early hours of Sunday, June 23 before the commencement time for the usual Sunday service was revealed through multiple videos shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by eyewitnesses present at the scene.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and there have been no reports of casualties at this time
One user, Augustine, tweeted under the handle @Chief_Augustin1, shared a video of the inferno and wrote, “Christ Embassy Church on Billings Way, Oregun, is on fire.
“Serious fire is raging, and men of the Lagos State Fire Service are working hard to put it off. Thank God service hasn’t commenced fully.”
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were already on ground at the scene and currently working to extinguish the fire.
Residents and church members have gathered at the scene. The church, known for its large congregation and significant influence in the community, is a landmark in the Oregun area.
Christ Embassy (also known as LoveWorld Incorporated or Believers’ Loveworld) is a megachurch and Christian denomination founded in 1987 by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome who hails from Edo State, Nigeria.
As of time of filing this report, the church has yet to make any official statement on the development.
