Panic gripped commuters and residents on Monday afternoon following an explosion along the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:50pm, prompted an immediate response from the FCT Police Command.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, a distress call was received and officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were swiftly deployed to the scene.

The area was promptly cordoned off to allow for thorough investigation and to ensure public safety.

“One male victim was rescued at the scene and promptly taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” the statement confirmed.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation, including forensic analysis, to determine the cause and nature of the explosion.

While the circumstances surrounding the blast remain unclear, the police have assured the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm.

The FCT Police Command has also urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.
