Former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following his resignation, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, from Borno State, has assumed the role of Acting National Chairman.
Ganduje’s resignation comes amid sustained internal party pressure and reported consultations with top political stakeholders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Although no official reason was cited in his resignation letter, sources within the party suggest that it followed weeks of behind-the-scenes deliberations aimed at reshuffling the party’s leadership in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
Westernmirror.com.ng reports that Hon. Dalori, who hails from Borno State, becomes the first APC chairman from the North-East since the party’s formation.
As a staunch loyalist of the party and former chairman of APC in Borno State, Dalori is seen by insiders as a stabilizing figure with grassroots connections and a track record of party organization.
The North-East, already producing the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, now also holds the party’s top administrative seat, raising speculation about zoning and power dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, party stakeholders are expected to meet in the coming days to deliberate on a date for the NEC meeting where Ganduje’s resignation will be formally acknowledged and a substantive national chairman elected or confirmed.
Ganduje served as APC chairman for nearly a year, having succeeded Senator Abdullahi Adamu in 2023.
As of the time filing this report, APC has yet to issue an official statement to the effect of Ganduje’s resignation.
