The Senate, has on Wednesday, officially declared the seat of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, vacant.

The seat, which was previously held by Okpebholo, represented the Edo Central Senatorial District.

In its decision, the Senate called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election to fill the now vacant seat.

The declaration comes in the wake of Okpebholo’s election and subsequent inauguration as the governor of Edo State in November.

The senator’s resignation from his legislative role was necessitated by his new political position, which the Senate recognized as incompatible with his previous legislative office.
