Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday inaugurated members of the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission, while emphasizing his administration’s commitment to appointing individuals based on competence and value, irrespective of political affiliations or place of origin.
The inauguration ceremony held today at the Executive Council Chambers, Office of the Governor, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The newly inaugurated members of the Judicial Service Commission include: Justice Iyabo Yerima, Chief Judge of Oyo State (Chairperson), Mrs M.O. Abdulganiyu (Secretary), Barr. Abiodun Aikomo, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Justice T.M. Abdulganiyu, Barr. Musibau Adetunji, Chief Joshua Abioye, Chief Moyosore Ajani, and Barr. Wahab Adedigba.
In his brief remarks, Governor Makinde justified the inclusion of Barr. Musibau Adetunji, who he acknowledged as being a known critic of his administration.
He noted that several individuals had objected to Adetunji’s nomination, citing his past criticisms and legal challenges against the government, as well as claims about his state of origin.
However, Makinde explained that none of the objections questioned Adetunji’s competence.
“Nobody came to me to say he wasn’t competent. They were all whipping up certain sentiments. Since no one has said that this individual is not competent to occupy this position, it is okay,” Makinde stated.
He reiterated that his administration remains committed to appointing individuals who can add value to the state, regardless of their background.
“Wherever we can find any talent that can add value to us as a state, I will go for such a person,” he affirmed.
Governor Makinde also shared a heartfelt moment during the ceremony, expressing gratitude to two of his former teachers present at the event; Alhaji Kamoru Aderibigbe, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, and Chief Joshua Abioye, a newly inaugurated member of the Commission.
“These two teachers shaped the character that you see in front of you today. This is an opportunity for me to say thank you to the teachers,” Makinde revealed.
Makinde charged the commission members to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state through their service, noting the importance of capable leadership that reflects the values and aspirations of the society.
“Any state or society will always get the kind of leadership it deserves. If we have to change the route of leadership, then we have to put in the necessary efforts required,” he added.
The event was graced by several notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, former Deputy Governor, Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni, and some other members of the State Executive Council.
Others were Chairmen of the Oyo State Elders’ Council, Dr. Saka Balogun and Elder Wole Oyelese, PDP State Secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Chief Jacob Adetoro, and ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda.
