The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the Mandatory Third-Party Insurance law, beginning Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Speaking on the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, emphasized that the directive follows the order of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
He stated that the enforcement aims to enhance road safety and ensure that all vehicle owners comply with the stipulated insurance requirements to protect themselves and others.
ACP Adejobi cautioned vehicle owners and operators against violating the regulation, warning that failure to possess valid Third-Party Insurance would attract strict enforcement measures.
“Non-compliance will result in fines, penalties, or both, as prescribed by existing laws,” he stated.
He explained that effective February 1, all vehicle owners nationwide must carry valid Third-Party Insurance while on the road.
He urged those without insurance to obtain it immediately to avoid embarrassment or legal repercussions.
He disclosed that to ensure smooth enforcement, the IGP has directed all State Commissioners of Police to oversee compliance.
Police officers will be deployed to conduct checks and enforce penalties for violations in line with relevant laws.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its dedication to road safety and the protection of lives through strict adherence to traffic regulations.
It called on the public to cooperate in this effort to enhance safety on the nation’s roads.
