In an impressive display of knowledge, intellectual prowess, and critical thinking, Miss Aladetan Ileladewa Opeyemi, a student from the Oyo state Comprehensive Model College, has emerged as the winner of the maiden Oluyole Local Government Inter-School Quiz competition.

The thrilling event, which saw students from several secondary schools across Oluyole Local Government Area battling for academic supremacy, culminated in Aladetan’s victory, earning her school a coveted and unique prize–the chance for the student to serve as the One-Day Chairman of Oluyole Local Government.

Also, as part of the awards for the winner, Aladetan, who was the only female in the competition, will be sworn in as on Wednesday, November 20 as the 1-day ceremonial executive chairman of Oluyole local government.

The Oluyole LG Inter-School Quiz competition which was an initiative of the executive chairman of the local government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, was targeted at promoting academic excellence and civic engagement among young minds.

The maiden edition of the competition, which held at the Oluyole Local Government Hall, featured over 20 secondary schools competing in various subjects, ranging from general knowledge to mathematics, science, current affairs, and social studies.

Aladetan Ileladewa, who was also presented the Seyi Makinde Intellectual Cup as the winner, scored an overall 45 points in the grand finale to defeat her closest competitor, Onikede Abdulrazak of Molete High School, who scored 44 points to emerge runner up at the end of the competition.

Prospect High School and Bare Community High School however, came 3rd and 4th in positions respectively after a tie breaker.

Throughout the contest, she showcased a remarkable breadth of knowledge and quick thinking, particularly in the final round where she outpaced her closest competitors by answering questions correctly under pressure.

Her prize includes a Winner Badge and ceremonial role as the One-Day Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, a rare honor designed to give young students a sense of leadership and civic responsibility.

As the One-Day Chairman, Aladetan will have the opportunity to sit in the LG Chairman’s office, preside over a series of administrative functions, and engage with local government officials on decision-making processes for the day.

Her role will also include interacting with citizens and addressing issues pertinent to the local government, all while gaining valuable insights into governance and leadership.

The executive chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, in his remarks, expressed his pride in the success of the maiden quiz competition while commending the students for their enthusiasm and academic prowess stressing that Oyo state is currently in a new public school era under governor Seyi Makinde with qualitative education and academic excellence.

Olatunji, who expressed confidence in the leadership of governor Seyi Makinde and described it as the pathfiner of modern democracy in not only Oyo state but the entire south west geopolitical zone in Nigeria, has also disclosed that the idea behind the competition was to engender the culture of academic excellence while preparing the ground for future leadership roles for the young minds.

Presenting gifts to the winner, Olatunji said his administration as an extension of the Seyi Makinde administration is determined to promote academic excellence in public schools.

“The Oluyole Inter-School Quiz is an initiative we are proud of because it encourages young people to excel not only academically but also in leadership.

“Aladetan’s win is a testament to her hard work, and we are excited to see her take on the role of One-Day Chairman. It is our hope that other students will be inspired by her achievement to continue striving for excellence in all areas of life.” Olatunji said.

In addition to the rare opportunity for leadership, Olatunji disclosed that Aladetan’s school will receive a set of educational materials as part of the prize package. Other top contestants were awarded various prizes including cash gifts to further support their academic growth.

Present at the grand finale were representatives of Kaleidoscope Olads Concepts; the organizing partner, the HLGA, Alhaja Kudirat Noibi, representatives of various participant schools, and other top officials of the local government.
