The Oyo State House of Assembly has congratulated its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on the successful completion of his tenure as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

This was as the state assembly commended what it described as far-reaching reforms and significant national impact recorded under his leadership.

The commendation was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Media, Publicity and ICT, Waheed Akintayo.

The House further described Ogundoyin’s over two-year tenure as impactful, reform-driven and critical to the evolution of legislative practice at the sub-national level.

According to the statement, the Speaker maximally utilised the office to reposition, redirect and re-engineer legislative processes across State Houses of Assembly, noting that the period witnessed increased public awareness of legislative activities and decisions.

He added that this development strengthened accountability, transparency and citizens’ trust in governance nationwide.

The statement further stated that Ogundoyin made history as the youngest Speaker to be elected Chairman of the Conference and the first Speaker from an opposition party to hold the position, a feat that, it noted, paved the way for bold and far-reaching institutional reforms.

Among the major achievements of his tenure were the digitalisation of legislative processes, the establishment of Post-Legislative Scrutiny Units in State Houses of Assembly, and sustained advocacy for fiscal transparency and improved revenue governance at the sub-national level.

The Assembly also commended Ogundoyin for his firm defence of the autonomy of State Legislatures against undue interference, while strengthening executive–legislative relations through strategic engagement with key national institutions.

The statement further acknowledged his efforts in promoting partnerships with international development organisations, advancing constitutional reform discussions, promoting women and youth inclusion in governance, and ensuring industrial harmony through constructive engagement with parliamentary staff unions.

It added that his leadership enhanced regional and inter-state legislative cooperation and helped project a united and credible voice for State Assemblies on national issues.

The Oyo State House of Assembly affirmed that Ogundoyin’s tenure would remain a reference point in Nigeria’s legislative history, defined by innovation, courage, inclusivity and institutional strengthening.

Meanwhile, the Oyo state Assembly has congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, on his election as the new Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, and wished him a successful and impactful tenure.
