As part of its bold move to enforce traffic regulations and improve road safety, the Oyo State Government has installed One-Way Tyre Spikes to deter motorists from driving against traffic.
A recently installed spike barrier at Idi-Ape area of Ibadan North East local government has gained widespread attention after a video showcasing its functionality went viral on social media.
The footage captures the enforcement tool in action, demonstrating how the spikes are designed to puncture the tyres of vehicles attempting to drive in the wrong direction.
The introduction of tyre spikes is part of the government’s strategies in its efforts to upscale enforcement of the rule of law in the state as well as to curb reckless driving and reduce road accidents caused by one-way violations.
By making it physically impossible for motorists to flout the rule without consequences, authorities envisaged to instill more discipline among road users.
The Oyo State Government has yet to release an official statement on whether more spike barriers will be installed across other locations in Ibadan and beyond.
However, the move indicates a firm stance against traffic violations and reinforces the administration’s commitment to enforcing road laws.
