The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has called for stronger collaboration between federal and state lawmakers to tackle Nigeria’s pressing governance challenges.
The policy dialogue brought together lawmakers, policy experts, and stakeholders from across the country to align legislative priorities with the nation’s most urgent needs.
Speaking at the inaugural National Policy Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda of the House of Representatives in Abuja, Hon. Ogundoyin delivered a goodwill message emphasizing the need for a united legislative front to address key national issues, including security, youth empowerment, and economic development.
The Ibarapa born lawmaker made this disclosure in a Facebook post on his official page on Monday, May 12.
Highlighting the urgent need for state-level security reforms, Hon. Ogundoyin reiterated the call for the establishment of State Police as a critical step toward addressing Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.
He argued that local policing would enhance responsiveness and accountability in securing communities.
“In order to safeguard our democracy and protect our citizens, the creation of State Police is no longer optional, it is a necessary reform,” Ogundoyin stated.
The Oyo Speaker also stressed the importance of policies that prioritize youth development, innovation, and the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), calling these sectors vital engines for national prosperity.
Ogundoyin praised the leadership of the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives, led by Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, for its dedication to strengthening legislative cooperation across all levels of government.
“The Conference of Speakers remains committed to supporting legislative actions that drive real progress and improve the lives of the Nigerian people,” he affirmed.
