As a show of respect for friendship and tradition beyond political lines, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, led members of the state legislature to witness the installation of Hon. Akinola Adekunle Alabi as the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The ceremony, held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, was presided over by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.
The event drew dignitaries from across the political and traditional spectrum, indicative of a moment where cultural heritage rose above political affiliations.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin described the installation of Hon. Alabi, who represents Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, as a well-deserved honor that reflects his longstanding contributions to Ibadanland.
“Hearty congratulations to my good friend, Hon. Akin Alabi, the new Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“This title is not just a mark of prestige, but a call to greater service and leadership. I wish you success in your new traditional role as Jagun Olubadan,” Ogundoyin said.
The Speaker also lauded Alabi’s dedication to youth empowerment and development initiatives, noting that his new traditional title would further enable him to champion progress in his federal constituency and Ibadanland.
“Hon. Alabi has distinguished himself as a strong advocate of progress. His unrelenting dedication to Ibadanland and Oyo State makes him deserving of this honor.
“As Jagun Olubadan, I have no doubt he will serve as a bridge between tradition and governance, which will in turn engender development in our great city,” Ogundoyin added.
The Speaker prayed for Hon. Alabi’s continued success, while expressing optimism that his time as Jagun Olubadan would bring more prosperity, wisdom, and unity to Ibadanland.
