The Oyo State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing one of its prominent members as a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service.
The union described the move as a testament to the governor’s respect for freedom of association and his commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable public service regardless of labor union affiliation.
Oyo state TUC Chairman, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, made this known in a statement on Saturday, January 4.
The labor leader expressed gratitude to the governor for recognizing competence and integrity over political or partisan considerations.
He emphasized that the appointment reflects Makinde’s commitment to meritocracy and his willingness to strengthen the partnership between labor unions and the state government.
“The appointment of one of our own as a Permanent Secretary is a clear indication that His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, is not averse to freedom of association irrespective of labor union affiliation.
“This is a progressive step that inspires confidence among workers and reinforce the governor’s belief in building a professional and diverse civil service,” the statement read.
The TUC leader in the state further commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for civil servants to thrive, citing recent reforms in workers’ welfare and administrative processes as evidence of Makinde’s pro-labor stance.
“The labor movement in Oyo State has witnessed unprecedented support under Governor Makinde’s administration. From prompt payment of salaries to regular promotion exercises and infrastructural development in the workplace, the governor has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the wellbeing of workers,” Olabiyi-Agoro said.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Comrade Badmus Kolawole Ismail, is said to have a distinguished record of service and is expected to bring valuable expertise to the position.
According to Comrade Olabiyi-Agoro, the new appointee is the incumbent Chairman of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Oyo State Branch.
The TUC leader however, urged the appointee to justify the confidence reposed in him by Governor Makinde and the union, while pledging its support to the state government in the pursuit of policies that enhance governance and workers’ welfare.
