Al-farouq Aminu, the founder Aminu Good WorK Foundation (AGWF) has said that the 2024 edition of its annual AGWF elite camp for talent identification and nurturing is set to showcase newly discovered talents.
The three days camping which holds daily at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan would also focus on grooming and transition of talents into professionals.
Aminu is a Nigerian and 2015 AfroBasket Champion and former D’Tigers forward.
Day 1 of the camp had 41 girls, U-19 from Oyo state showcasing their skills and talents to the scout managers.
In his words, Aminu said: “I played in the NBA for 11 years. My journey consisted of a lot of people helping me along the way ,giving me when I didn’t have.
“I felt like now that I’m in a position to help and give it’s my duty to do it for people and those that need opportunities to thrive in basketball.
“To identify talents that can be nurtured to stardom,”he said.
The former Chicago Bulls played said this is the 8th edition of the camp, and I must say that I see tremendous improvements over the years.
“Over the years have seen great improvement in the skills and standards of play exhibited by young aspiring basketballers.
“I must say that the coaching crew are very intentional about what they are teaching and knowledge they are impacting in the participants, and yearly, I must say that the coaching crew keeps improving,” he said.
The New Orleans Pelicans former player said, we now have some of the past participants of the camp who have gone to play at various levels in basketball around the world, and this is beautiful to see.
” It shows that the yearly camp is yielding positive results.
“We have Adenike Olawuyi, who came to this camp in 2019 and had only played for a few weeks before attending the camp and now plays for the D’tigeress and NKA Universitas Pecs in Hungary.
“We hoping that all participants in this edition can go on and do something beautiful with the game at the end of the camp, but that’s not always the case.
“We want all participants to be leaders, better people. We have scouts here who are identifying talents to nurture into stardom and make a name for themselves in basketball.
” Our aim is to help every single kid improve in basketball, ” he said.
