The Oyo State Internal Revenue Service has warned residents to be wary of individuals going around markets and workshops with stickers allegedly issued in the name of the Board.
The statement, signed by the management of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue Service and dated 28 November 2025was obtained by westernmirror.com.ng on Friday.
According to the agency, some traders and artisans have reported being approached by people selling stickers said to guarantee “tax cover” for 2026.
These sellers reportedly present letters they claim are backed by the revenue service.
The management of the Board has now issued a firm disclaimer, stressing that no such authorisation exists.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency explained that it became aware that stickers were being circulated and sold to unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of covering their 2026 tax obligations.
The Board made it clear that it has not approved the sale of any sticker for any purpose.
The agency noted that no step will be taken on informal sector tax until the Oyo State House of Assembly passes a new law on taxes and levies.
The law is expected to replace the 1998 legislation that was signed under the military administration and later struck down by the Supreme Court in 2025.
The Board urged residents to dismiss any claim linking it to these collections. It reminded the public that every legitimate payment related to the state revenue service must go directly into an approved government account, never into personal accounts.
